You can close your account at any time by visiting any one of our branches

Before you close

Emirates NBD offers a wide range of accounts. Before you close your account with us, have a look at all our current, savings and deposit accounts. You might find one that suits your needs better. Call us and we’ll gladly switch your account to any other account of your choice, provided you meet the conditions.

Things you should do before you close an account

  • Withdraw all your funds from the account you’re closing and ensure your account is not overdrawn. We can only close an account with a zero balance. If you hold any other Emirates NBD account, we can move funds from that to your overdrawn account if required, else you need to deposit cash into the account.
  • Resolve any liens or amounts on hold by depositing cash into the account.
  • Settle any credit card debts or loans linked to your account for auto debits, or provide a new repayment method. Cancel any recurring payment standing instructions or any direct debit you have set up. We can transfer auto debits and standing orders to other Emirates NBD accounts you hold.
  • Print or download your statements for your record via Online Banking as your online statement history won’t be available after you close your account.

Fees and charges

A fee of AED 100 is applied if the account is closed within 6 months of opening. For accounts opened more than 6 months, there are no fees or charges for closure. You will be liable to pay any debit interest and other charges owed to us including any cheques you may have issued.

FAQs

If you're abroad, you can email us to close your account, but you can't ask someone else to close your account on your behalf, you need to be present. You can have your funds transferred to an international bank account through Online Banking, Mobile Banking or by placing a request at a branch.

If there are funds in the account, you need to activate your dormant account and withdraw the funds before requesting closure. Otherwise, you can visit a branch and request closure right away.
